Dr. Y. Zayachuk presentation on "Higher Education in Ukraine"

Dr. Yulia Zayachuk is an assistant professor at the Ivan Franko National University in Lviv Ukraine. While she was Winnipeg at the Metropolitan Ilarion International Conference, she gave a series of guest presentations, including one on "Higher Education in Ukraine."

Dr. Zayachuk was introduced by Dr. Denis Hlynka, acting director of the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies.

Metropolitan Ilarion Conference

The Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies is one of the co-sponsors of The Metropolitan Ilarion International Conference, held November 2-4, 2007, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The comment below (by Dr. Oleh Krawchenko) is a reflection on his own remembrances of his student days under Metropolitan Ilarion at St. Andrew's College in Winnipeg. Metropolitan Ilarion was also an adjunct professor for the University of Manitoba.

Ukrainian Canadian Culture Panel

The triennial meeting of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress featured a panel titled Ukrainian Canadian Culture. The Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies at the University of Manitoba co-ordinated this panel under Dr. Denis Hlynka and Dr. Robert Klymasz. To date the following individuals participated:

Session Abstract:
From generation to generation, from coast to coast, it is our culture which unites us. Explore the Canadian flavour of Ukrainian dance, choral music, theatre, literature and visual arts and its power to instill pride and promote unity.

Marina Lewycka in Winnipeg

Dr. Denis Hlynka, of the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies at the University of Manitoba introduced British author Marina Lewycka at Grant Park McNally Robinson on Monday October 15, 2007 at 7 PM. Lewycka is the author of the bestseller A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian . Her latest book, just released, -- and the subject of this booklaunch -- is titled Strawberry Fields .
